15 Adar: Shushan Purim
SHUSHAN PURIM
Shushan Purim emphasizes that the miracle of Purim occurred not only in the surrounding country, but also in the capital city itself. This represents the transformation of not only the physical world, but of evil itself, as symbolized by the stronghold of Haman. Furthermore, the evil was not simply displaced but transformed into good.
This is the advantage of baalei teshuvah (returnees to observant Judaism) over the completely righteous. The righteous suppress evil. But when regular people stumble, they are able to transform those negative experiences into something positive and G-dly. Only this kind of transformation will perfect the world and bring Moshiach.
