16 Adar: From the Mouths of Children

FROM THE MOUTHS OF CHILDREN

From the mouth of infants and babies, You have established strength, because of Your adversaries, to put an end to enemy and avenger. (Tehillim 8:3)

When the decree against the Jewish People was signed and placed in Haman’s hand…, Mordechai saw three young children returning from school….
Mordechai asked the children, “What is your favorite verse?”
The first answered (Proverbs 3:25), “Be not afraid of sudden terror, or of the darkness of the wicked when it will come.”
The second answered (Isaiah 8:10), “Make a scheme, and it will be foiled; speak of a plan, and it will not succeed, for God is with us.”
The third answered (Isaiah 46:4), “Even in old age, I am the same, and until you turn gray, I will carry; I have made, and I will bear, and I will carry and deliver.”
When Mordechai heard this, he laughed and rejoiced greatly [knowing that the Jewish People would be spared from Haman’s decree].
(Medrash Esther Rabbah, 7:17 end.)

Our greatest weapon against exile is educating our children from their earliest days not to fear any man. If they follow G-d, all will be well. Our children’s simple faith and trust in G-d will lead us out of exile and carry us from the Redemption of Purim to the complete and Final Redemption with Moshiach.
