17 Tishrei: Peeling Back the Shells
PEELING BACK THE SHELLS
The yechidah, the inner self, is qualitatively different than the other four aspects of the soul: action, emotion, intellect, and desire. These four aspects are all specific expressions of the self, while the yechidah transcends specific expressions.
(Kuntres Inyanah shel Toras HaChassidus, ch. 5)
Everything has its Divine essence—a pure G-dly core. Chassidus teaches that this essence is the spark of Moshiach. We all possess this spark, yet it is covered by many layers. Our task in life is to peel back these layers to reveal who we really are. Therefore, the concept of Moshiach is being true to your real self. Paradoxically, this is both the simplest and the most difficult task on earth.
