23 Shvat: The Crown of Moshiach
THE CROWN OF MOSHIACH
There are three crowns: the crown of Torah, the crown of priesthood, and the crown of kingship. But the crown of a good name surpasses them all. (Avos 4:13)
The crown of a good name: this is the simple joy in fulfilling mitzvos, and this is the crown of Moshiach. (Shaarei Orah, pg. 102)
A crown represents a king’s desire to be king, and also the goodwill of the people who coronate him. The crown of Moshiach is the commitment to fulfill G-d’s commandments and the joy in doing G-d’s will simply because it is His will. This transcends even the crown of Torah. When one serves G-d based on a reason, he is limited by that reason. When one serves G-d simply for the sake of serving G-d, there is no limit.
