7 Nissan: Foolish Faith

FOOLISH FAITH
Even a thief prays to G-d before he enters the door to steal.
(Berachos [Ein Yakov] 63a)

A thief may believe in G-d and pray for success in his mission. Yet, if he were to truly think about his belief in G-d, he would realize that G-d can provide for him in many ways, and there is no need to steal. Besides, transgressing G-d’s laws is surely no way of winning His favor. From this example, we see that we must do more than express our belief. Moshiach requires that we internalize our faith and live our lives accordingly.
