8 Adar: From Many, One
FROM MANY, ONE
There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed….
(Esther, 3:8)
Haman’s decree occurred due to a lack of Jewish unity. He claimed that the Jewish People were scattered and no longer a true nation. Mordechai and Esther responded by gathering the people to study and pray. Today, as well, we celebrate Purim by promoting Jewish unity, giving gifts of food to our friends and charity to the poor.
The unity of Purim is one where the people were dispersed and, yet, they overcame their differences and joined together. This kind of unity allows us to maintain our culture and differences and still unite as one. By promoting this unity among Jews and all of mankind, we will bring salvation and the ultimate Redemption through Moshiach.
